Use the paper clip (or back of butter knife) to score the fold lines. The fold line guides are the blue dashed lines.
Line up the paper clip on the fold line guide, then place the ruler next to it to keep straight. Push down and slide clip along guide lines. Repeat for each fold line.

Once all fold lines are scored, use the craft knife to cut out each piece. When cutting, keep the cut path on the line so that you do not see white around the edges. A ruler can be used for long straight lines.
You can also use scissors.

Scissors can make it easier to cut the rounded shapes.

Place the long tab piece over a rounded pen as shown. Do not curl the tabs, only between the tabs.
While holding your thumb between the paper and the pen, slowly pull the paper away from you over the pen to slightly curl the paper.

Fold each of the tabs along the score line.
Fold the two flat ends.

With the tabs facing up, curl into a circular shape.
Place a piece of double sided tape or glue on the grey rectangle. Attach the flat ends together.
Place a very small piece double sided tape or glue on each tab.

Starting from the flat edge, attach the bottom piece to the side, one tab at a time.
Make sure the bottom is flush and follows the circular shape when attaching the tabs.

Fold along the score lines to create a box as shown.
Place a piece of double sided tape or glue on the grey rectangle and press to secure.

Using the craft knife, cut the dark blue line within the center of the compass as shown.

Insert the thin tab from the box of step 10 through the the center cut line.

Curve with the pen as shown, fold over the tip of the tab with the grey rectangle up.

Place 2 pieces of double sided tape or glue on the bottom of the box.

Insert face-side-up into compass bottom as shown starting from the flat edge.
Push down along the center to secure the tape or glue. Don't press too hard.

Place a very small piece of double sided tape or glue on the tip of the tab indicated by the grey rectangle.
Attach the needle as shown while pressing down lightly.

Place pieces of double sided tape or glue along the back side of the name cover as shown.

Attach the inside cover (with your personalized message) onto the tape/glue as shown.
Place a piece of double sided tape on the rectangle at the bottom as shown.

Put cover on by attaching rectangle tab to flat side of compass body, as shown.

Close the cover of the love compass. The tab should line up with the cutout and the cover will fit securely inside the bottom.
