Uplift your beloved with a paper craft dumbbell personalized with a loving message on the handle. A unique way to encourage, apologize, or express thanks and support.
Personalize the form field on the printable PDF template to add a multi-line phrase of your own.
Some sample messages include:
Please forgive me for being a dumbbell and hurting you.
You always lift me up whenever I’m down.
Thank you for your strength and support.
I’m so proud of you reaching your fitness goals.

If there is something weighing your partner down, like a worry or a stress, write it on the handle so that s/he can toss it across the room as a symbol of letting it go. Present it on their shoulder so that you can remove "the weight off their shoulders."
Leave the dumbbell on the passenger seat of a car before your partner leaves for a workout at the gym. If you have a home gym, place near other weights to be found as a surprise.
Print, cut, fold, and tape this paper craft into a realistic replica dumbbell using the detailed photo instructions below.

Use the paper clip to score the fold lines. The fold line guides are the blue dashed lines.
Line up the paper clip on the fold line guide, then place the ruler next to it to keep straight. Push down and slide clip along guide lines.
Repeat for each fold line.

Once all fold lines are scored, use the craft knife to cut out each piece. When cutting, keep the cut path on the line so that you do not see white around the edges.
A ruler can be used for long straight lines. You can also use scissors.

Using the craft knife, cut out the octagon with the red X in the center as shown.

Round the handle before cutting by placing on the edge of a desk or counter and sliding over the corner down slowly at a 90 degree angle as shown.
Repeat this step a few times to create a rounded shape.

Place 2-3 pieces of double sided tape on the long tab of the handle.
Curve the handle as shown and carefully line up the edge of the long tab flush before pressing.

Place very small pieces of double sided tape on each tab of the side labeled L.

Fold the tip along the score lines to shape as shown.

Fold each tab down and press to attach.

Fold each of the L side tabs down along the fold lines.
Place double sided tape on each tab.

Fold the L top piece (with the number 15) along the fold lines.
Attach the top piece onto the tab flush along the edge as shown.

Carefully line up the edges properly before pressing into the tape.
Repeat for each side.

Fold tabs and side along the fold lines.
Place double sided tape on each of the tabs shown.
Keep flush while pressing the side piece together.

Double sided tape should be on the top tab only.
Insert each of the side tabs as shown (the sides do not need tape.)

Press the last piece of the side flush into the tab to close the box.

Place very small pieces of double sided tape on each tab of the R side of the handle.
Line up both R's before inserting like Step 9.

Repeat Steps 12-16 to complete right side of the dumbbell.

Finished and ready to give.
